Connect

Other MCP clients

Any client that supports MCP over Streamable HTTP and the OAuth authorization from the MCP specification can connect. Sign-in happens in the browser.

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user specter-cite https://cite.specterlaw.ai/mcp

Then run /mcp in a session, select Specter Cite and choose Authenticate. --scope user makes the server available in every project.

Codex

codex mcp add specter-cite --url https://cite.specterlaw.ai/mcp

Codex opens the Specter sign-in in the browser. To sign in again later, run codex mcp login specter-cite.

Cursor

In ~/.cursor/mcp.json (all projects) or .cursor/mcp.json (one project):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "specter-cite": { "url": "https://cite.specterlaw.ai/mcp" }
  }
}

Then click Connect or Login next to Specter Cite under MCP in Cursor settings.

VS Code

In .vscode/mcp.json or via the command MCP: Add Server:

{
  "servers": {
    "specter-cite": { "type": "http", "url": "https://cite.specterlaw.ai/mcp" }
  }
}

Start the server and confirm the sign-in when VS Code asks for it.

Other clients

Other clients only need the server URL. Specter Cite takes no API key: sign-in uses OAuth and client registration is automatic (client ID metadata document or Dynamic Client Registration). Details in Server and authentication.

Specter Cite is a product of Specter. Statutes and court decisions in their original wording, right in Claude and ChatGPT.
