Troubleshooting

Common messages when connecting and using Specter Cite, what causes them and how to fix them.

While connecting

“Verbindung nicht möglich: Diese App ist nicht registriert” (connection not possible: this app is not registered)

The app sent an unknown or outdated registration, for example after a change on our side or because the connector is very old.

Remove Specter Cite in the app and add it again (see Claude or ChatGPT). If that does not help, contact us.

“Die Weiterleitungsadresse der App ist nicht registriert” (the app’s redirect address is not registered)

After sign-in the app wants to return to an address it did not register.

Remove Specter Cite in the app and add it again.

“Add custom connector” is missing in Claude

On Claude Team and Enterprise only owners can add connectors.

The owner adds Specter Cite once under Organization settings → Connectors. Each member then clicks Connect next to Specter Cite.

“Create plugin” is missing in ChatGPT

Custom plugins are not allowed in your workspace or not available on your ChatGPT plan.

On ChatGPT Business or Enterprise a workspace admin must allow custom plugins. Alternatively, use Specter Cite in Claude.

On the Specter sign-in page

“Specter Cite ist nicht freigeschaltet” (Specter Cite is not enabled)

Your account is not part of a Business team with the Specter Cite add-on, or the add-on has ended.

The team owner books Specter Cite in team billing on specterlaw.ai. Then start the connection in your app again.

“Link abgelaufen” or “Link unvollständig” (link expired or incomplete)

A sign-in request is valid for 10 minutes and only once. The link was opened too late, twice or incompletely.

Start the connection in your app again instead of reloading the old link.

“Bitte melden Sie sich erneut an” (please sign in again)

Your Specter session has expired.

Sign in. You then return to the request automatically.

Warning: app not clearly identified

The request comes from an app whose origin Specter cannot confirm. Third parties could use this to trick you into granting access.

Only click Erlauben (Allow) if you just started the connection in your app yourself. Otherwise click Ablehnen (Deny).

“Specter Cite ist gerade nicht erreichbar” (Specter Cite is currently unavailable)

Network problem or a brief outage.

Reload the page. If it persists, write to support@specterlaw.ai.

While using it

The app says Specter Cite is no longer connected

The connection was disconnected in Specter settings, the add-on has ended, or the sign-in was ended for security reasons.

Connect Specter Cite again in the app, in Claude via Customize → Connectors → Specter Cite → Connect.

The assistant does not use Specter Cite

Specter Cite is not enabled in the chat, or the assistant does not treat the question as a legal one.

Check that Specter Cite is enabled in the chat (Claude: tools menu in the message box, ChatGPT: + in the message box). Or ask explicitly: “Use Specter Cite and quote the wording.” For a lasting fix, save one sentence in the assistant’s settings: Claude, ChatGPT.

Error “rate_limited” or HTTP 429

More than 120 requests per minute from your account.

Wait a minute. Affected all the time? Contact us.

A provision or decision is not found

The source is not connected or the citation is ambiguous. An empty result does not prove that no case law exists.

Give the citation more precisely (court, date, docket number) or ask the assistant to check coverage (get_legal_coverage).

Managing connections

See and disconnect all connected apps in Specter settings under Specter Cite → Verbundene Apps (connected apps). A disconnected app loses access within a few minutes.

Not listed here? Write to support@specterlaw.ai.

Specter Cite is a product of Specter. Statutes and court decisions in their original wording, right in Claude and ChatGPT.
